(WWLP) – A cease-and-desist order issued against a Springfield nightclub for a promotion of an upcoming event has highlighted the strict nature of Massachusetts laws regarding promotions involving alcohol.

Assistant City Solicitor Steven M. Reilly, Jr. issued an order Thursday to the Lux Nightclub, after Reilly said that an advertised reduced cover charge for women would violate the state’s anti-discrimination laws. He also said that a drink promotion that the club advertised for the event would not be allowable under state regulations.

There have been efforts by some lawmakers in the past to reduce some of the regulations, such as the prohibition on happy hour (something that was not being promoted in this case). We want to know what you think: are the state’s restrictions on drink specials too strict? Vote in today’s 22News Interactive Internet Poll.
