SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It was a violent morning in Springfield when three separate shootings took place.
22News spoke with Springfield Police Captain Harry Kastrinakis. He said the first shooting took place at E. Colombus Ave. and Worthington Street where four people were injured.
Police say it seemed two groups were essentially just shooting at each other. One of the victims walked to Mercy Hospital himself for treatment, and two other victims went to Baystate Medical Center
Shortly after, at Baystate Medical Center, the second shooting took place. Kastrinakis says a man was shot right outside the emergency room. He told 22News at this time it is unclear if the two shootings were related, but no arrests have been made.
Moving down to Armory Street is where the third shooting took place. Police received calls about shots fired in the area. When they arrived on Armory Street, they found shell casings surrounding a damaged car. Kastrinakis said someone, or a group of individuals, shot up the car. No one was in the vehicle at the time, so no injuries during this shooting.
Kastrinakis says the shell casings do show the shooter or shooters used semi-automatic hand guns. In this third shooting no arrests were made. In all three shootings, the victims are expected be okay. If you have any information police want to hear from you. You can call the Detective’s Bureau at 413-787-6355
