CHICOPEE, Mass (WWLP) – The state is trying to encourage more of us to be organ donors.
State secretary of health and human services, John Polanowicz, said organ donors helped save the lives of 640 New Englanders last year. But the problem seems to be the demand is much larger than the number of organ donors.
Polanowicz revealed there are more than 120,000 men and women who are currently on the U.S. transplant wait list.
He’ll try to create more awareness during a statehouse event Monday, announcing April as donate life month in Massachusetts.
The secretary has invited a number of people whose lives were saved by someone who donated an organ.
