BOSTON, Mass (WWLP) – We’re getting closer to the start of the Boston Marathon, and public safety is priority number one.

That’s why state police dogs from Rhode Island will be helping to sniff out potential explosives. These are trained dogs.

Five teams of a dog and a trooper will sweep different areas along the route, and they won’t be alone. They’ll be working alongside other dog teams and bomb disposal units from other states and federal agencies.

This year’s Boston Marathon will take place on April 21st.
