Comedy night in Spfld. benefits local organizations

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It was a night of laughs at the Cedars Banquet Hall on Island Pond Road in Springfield.

More than 600 people came out Saturday night. Springfield-based gun maker Smith & Wesson hosted a comedy night. All the proceeds went to benefit two worthwhile organizations: the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, and the Ronald McDonald House.

People got the chance to laugh the night away, while knowing they were providing some serious help for these non-profits.

Dr. David Drvaric from Shriner’s Hospital told 22News, “All of the money here will help us take care of the children, whether it be for surgeries, braces, prosthetic limbs, therapy; all of it will go to them to help them lead a better life.”

Rick Katsanos from the Ronald McDonald House said, “We have 23 rooms; it takes a lot of effort and money to keep that running. So this is a great help to our annual budget.”

The Ronald McDonald House provides families of sick children with a supportive place to stay, while the Shriner’s Hospital provides medical care, education and research for children with a variety of illnesses.
