Arrest made in connection with Boston hit and run

BOSTON (AP) — A garbage truck driver has pleaded not guilty to fleeing the scene of an accident that killed a 30-year-old Chelsea man riding a bicycle.

Ricky Prezioso of Swampscott was granted $5,000 bail at his arraignment Friday on a charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident in connection with the death on Thursday.

Prosecutors sought $15,000 bail and GPS monitoring should he make bail, but a judge denied the higher amount and the monitoring request.

The 41-year-old Prezioso told police he thought he struck a pothole. His lawyer says the cyclist initiated the contact.

The district attorney’s office released the man’s age and hometown Friday evening but is withholding his name until relatives are notified.

The man was struck at about 1:30 p.m. at Cambridge and Spice streets, near Sullivan Square in Charlestown.
