1 killed in Brattleboro hotel shooting involving officer

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) — Vermont State Police say one person is dead following a shooting involving a Brattleboro police officer during the search of hotel room that was part of a drug investigation.

The shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. Friday at the America’s Best Inn in the southeastern Vermont town.

Police have not released the name of the person who died or the officer who fired the shot or shots.

Police say the officer fired his gun, striking a man inside the room during their initial entry. Police did not say why the officer fired his weapon.

Emergency workers determined that the man had died inside the room.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
