Date set for the “Ride to Remember II”

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The bike marathon from Springfield to Boston will be held later this year on Saturday, September 20th. The main purpose of ride is to raise awareness of officers who have died in the line of duty.

Over 200 riders completed the 106 mile trip in 2013 in honor of Springfield Police Officer Kevin Ambrose and Westfield Police Officer Jose Torres.

According to the Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, Lynn PD has reached out to Boston Fire to include them in this ride to honor the two brave Boston Firefighters who lost their lives one week ago.

Sgt. Delaney said the route this year will be basically the same as last years. Gary Kennedy and his son, Gary Kennedy Jr. have agreed to tweak the route and rest stops to make it more rider friendly.

There will be a “Ride-to-Remember II” mandatory meeting for riders and support crew on Tuesday, April 29th from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Theodore’s, 201 Worthington Street, Springfield.

Anyone that plans to ride and being a ride supporter make sure that you attend. We will have applications and take your rider fee then. The rider mandatory donation will again be $300.

Space is limited so Sgt. Delaney suggests you act right away or be in danger of losing your spot. Applications will be collected until the meeting on April 29th.
