4 hikers rescued after search in Chester

CHESTER, Mass. (WWLP) – Firefighters in western Hampden County came to the rescue of four hikers who became lost in the woods on Thursday evening.

Chester Deputy Fire Chief Henry Fristik told 22News that a group of four hikers got lost near Sanderson Brook Falls, off Route 20. Firefighters were called in around 7:30, and found two of the lost hikers fairly quickly.

Fristik said that firefighters had to go through some very steep and difficult terrain in their efforts to find the other two hikers. Once the rescuers finally found the other two on a mountainside, Fristik says that they were suffering from exposure.

Hilltown Ambulance brought those two hikers to Noble Hospital in Westfield.
