New website links unemployed with job training

BOSTON (WWLP) - The unemployment rate in the state dropped to 6.5% in February. That still leaves more than 200,000 people without a job, but not for long.

The Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center announced a new website that will help those without a job become employed. It can even help low-skilled workers find training programs that will lead to higher paying jobs.

“We do have a huge skills gap. We have many, many, millions of low-skilled workers who need to upgrade their skills and training in order to access better jobs,” said Loh-Sze Leung of SkillWorks.

The website provides information on how much money is being funded by the state towards workforce programs.

“It does tell you a lot about Massachusetts. And first of all, we’re very diversified. There’s a lot of different job areas that are not just present, but growing,” said Secretary Rachel Kaprielian of the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

The online tool also provides descriptions of the programs that you would need to find a job in your specific field.
