Evening training flights planned for Barnes jets

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – People living in the area of Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield should expect some additional noise a little later this month.

The 104th Fighter Wing is planning on conducting evening training flights from April 14-17.

Senior Master Sergeant Robert Sabonis of the 104th Fighter Wing notified 22News that the flights should take off around 5:00 P.M., and land around 6:30 P.M.

Sabonis says that the evening flights are needed in order to help the pilots are able to fulfill their mission of protecting the skies over the Northeast, in any conditions.

He also said that the wing will be conducting a homeland defense exercise this weekend, which will begin on Friday and last through Saturday. Sabonis said that this weekend’s exercise is not out of the ordinary, except for the fact that there will be flights on Friday, rather than on Sunday.
