Candy makers preparing for Easter season

DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Easter is a little more than two weeks away and that means lots of chocolates and colorful Easter baskets.

Spring is in the air and it’s also inside Richardson’s Candy Kitchen. Candy makers were busy at work Wednesday preparing chocolates and jelly beans for the Easter holiday.

Richardson’s Candy Kitchen in Deerfield is in full swing for Easter. Candy makers are working extra hours to keep up with the demand for chocolate bunnies. The Candy Kitchen depends on holidays like Easter for most of its business.

The owner told 22News the cold winter kept customers out of the store but Easter falling later on the calendar will help sales.

“We’ve had a lot of time to prepare, which has been good. We’re ready, and since the weather has changed we’re finally seeing people come in,” said Kathie Williams. “The weekends have been busy. It will just get busier as we get closer to the holiday.”

Williams said that dark chocolate is traditionally more popular this time of year, and the candy kitchen sees an increase in white chocolate purchases for the Easter holiday.

Richardson’s signature Easter candy is something they call a “coconut nest”. It’s a coconut cluster with jelly beans in the middle and it’s only available this time of year.
