HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Local business leaders got some insight on government affairs from three people who know quite a lot about them: the mayors of Holyoke, Springfield, and West Springfield.
The three mayors participated in a forum at the Delaney House in Holyoke, which was hosted by the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield.
Some of the topics discussed included the impact of marijuana dispensaries on a community, the affect a strong education system can have on a city, and the proposed MGM resort casino.
First-term West Springfield Mayor Edward Sullivan said, closed door arbitration negotiations with MGM are moving ahead.
“We’re looking forward to partnering with MGM and Springfield moving forward. I think that there are some great opportunities. We’ve learned that by working with HardRock and came up with some creative ideas for that section of our community,” Mayor Sullivan said.
Many of the concerns Mayor Sullivan said they are working through are to do with their widely diverse population and how the casino will impact their daily lives.
