Drug money seized in Montague traffic stop

MONTAGUE, Mass. (WWLP) – During a routine traffic stop in Turners Falls, Montague Police arrested the driver and found more than $5,000 in illegal drug money.

According to the Montague Police Facebook page, on March 28th, Reserve Officer Jamie Waitkus pulled over a suspect for allegedly not stopping at a stop sign. After searching the car, police allegedly seized $5,333 in illegal drug money.

To confirm the money was used for drug transactions, police used K-9 Drago, who was trained to detect narcotics. After sniffing through the car, Drago immediately found the cash.

The money was held by the Montague Police Department, and Sgt. Lee Laster started the process of taking the money as a drug forfeiture.

Police also reported that the suspect driving the car had prior drug related convictions.
