6 homeless after house fire in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two families, six people, are temporarily homeless, because someone may have set fire to a vacant house next door late Sunday afternoon.

That vacant house at 3 Oakwood Terrace in Springfield’s Bay neighborhood had burned once before, a year ago, and that was thought to be a case of arson.

Springfield Fire Department spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News, the flames spread to 7-9 Oakwood Terrace where people live.

The Pioneer Valley Red Cross disaster relief team will help two families find a temporary place to stay. Leger said one firefighter was hurt.
