(WWLP) – Governor Deval Patrick has declared a “health emergency” due to the epidemic of heroin use in Massachusetts.

State police have reported a sharp increase in heroin deaths recently, with at least 140 people dying statewide in just the past few months.

Among other things, the governor’s action allows all first responders to carry and administer the drug Naloxone (or Narcan), which can save lives when administered to someone having an overdose.

With heroin addiction being such a widespread problem, we want to know if it has hit home for you. Vote in today’s 22News Interactive Internet Poll, and leave your comments below.
