Big Cambridge fire sent up clouds of smoke

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) – A major bridge over the Charles River was shut down as fire crews worked to put out a fire in Cambridge Friday afternoon.

NBC affiliate WHDH-TV in Boston reports that the fire on the roof of a 14-story building on Main Street near Kendall Square has since been extinguished.

The Longfellow Bridge from Boston to Cambridge was closed to traffic as firefighters worked to put out the flames.

The smoke could clearly be seen from across the river in Boston.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
