WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– West Haven police arrested a Florida woman Thursday after officers said they found her 3-year-old child wandering and her other young children living in deplorable conditions at a nearby hotel.
Police say officers were patrolling the area of Greta and Higland streets around 8:30 a.m. when they came across the boy wandering near Interstate 95, dressed in only a diaper and blanket.
Officers immediately placed the toddler in the warm cruiser and the fire department arrived to evaluate the toddler’s condition.
Police then found the mother of the child, 30-year-old April Pardy, asleep in a nearby hotel room. Three other children, all under the age of 12, were also in the room.
Police say the room was in deplorable conditions with trash, old food, dirty diapers, a ferret and a dog inside. It’s still unclear how long the family had been staying at the hotel.
DCF took custody of all four children.
Pardy was charged with risk of injury to a minor and allowing unsupervised children. She was held on bond.
