Man rescued after going off Muller Bridge

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Firefighters were able to save an elderly man who went off the Muller Bridge early Thursday afternoon.

Police and fire crews, as as well as a team of state police dogs were called-in to help after he went into the water around 1:30 P.M.

According to Holyoke Fire Department Captain Anthony Cerruti, witnesses said that the man jumped over the railing and went into the water.

South Hadley firefighters found the man on a sandbar, and threw him a lifeline, which he grabbed. He was brought back to shore in South Hadley.

The Muller Bridge carries Route 202 over the Connecticut River, just above the Holyoke Dam.
