6 forced from home in Springfield fire

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)- Six people and nine dogs are safe following a fire at a two-family home in Springfield’s Forest Park neighborhood early Thursday morning.

Dennis Leger,aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, told 22News that firefighters got a report of a fire at 14 Wareham Street around 3:30 a.m.

Three people were on the first floor and three people were on the second at the time of the fire, and all made it out okay, Leger said. He said that there were also nine dogs in the home, including seven puppies that were in crates. All were brought out of the home safely.

Firefighters were working at the house well past 6:00 A.M. in an effort to put out the last of the fire.

Wareham Street is a side street that runs between Orange St. and White Street.
