New England governors seeking to tap Canada’s hydroelectric power

Portland, Maine (WTNH) – Governors in several New England states want to use Canada’s hydroelectric power to help the region meet its green energy goals.

Under the proposal, a 300-mile power cable line would be buried on land and run underwater from Maine to Boston.

The so-called “Green Line” is one of two proposals in Maine.

There are also proposals in New Hampshire and Vermont.

State officials say now is the time to act because energy rates are sky high, and the region is too reliant on fossil fuels.
