Ocean State Job Lot made big donation to Food Bank

HATFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Ocean State Job Lot is helping people in need of food in western Massachusetts. 22News was there when the truck arrived Tuesday morning in Hatfield.

Ocean State Job Lot has donated thousands of pounds of food for the past 11 years. This year was their biggest donation ever.

Tuesday alone, 15 tractor trailer trucks were loaded with food to deliver to food banks across New England. One of those trucks carried 40,000 pounds of non-perishable food to the Food Bank of western Massachusetts.

Workers and volunteers then distribute that food to pantries in all four western Massachusetts counties, and it’s all because of generous customers at Ocean State Job Lot stores.

Pat Nevue, the Regional Director of Ocean State Job Lot, told 22News, “In the 2013 holiday season, Ocean State Job Lot collected donations from the patrons of our stores and contributed on their own behalf up to the first 100,000 dollars raised was matched.”

Nevue said they raised $1.4 million this year, which translates to about 1 million meals for people in need.

Throughout the year, an estimated 78 tractor trailers will deliver food from this donation to 13 food banks in New England.
