Police looking into 2 deaths

Springfield police are seen here investigating an unattended death at a home on Agnes Street in Springfield's East Forest Park neighborhood on March 23, 2014.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Police in Springfield are still investigating the deaths of a man and a woman whose bodies were found in separate locations in the city over the weekend.

Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that around 10:00 Saturday morning, police found the body of 61 year-old Craig Sheridan inside his sixth-floor apartment at 5 Temple Street. Delaney says that Sheridan, who was found lying on his right side, appeared to have been dead for a long time prior to the discovery.

Police had been called to the building by neighbors, who said that they had not seen Sheridan for a long time.

Delaney says that the department’s homicide unit was called in, but Sheridan’s death is still being investigated as an “unattended death.” Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy being conducted Monday by the state’s medical examiner. Officers are also questioning neighbors and others who knew Sheridan.

On Sunday afternoon, police found the body of a 29 year-old woman in a home at 48 Agnes Street in the East Forest Park neighborhood. There were no initial signs of violence or a crime, Delaney says. The Medical Examiner is also performing an autopsy on her body.

Police are not releasing the woman’s identity until her family can be notified.
