I-91 Exit 10 re-opened following fuel spill

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)-  A fuel spill  closed the offramp for Exit 10 of Interstate 91 North during the morning commute.

Sgt. Michael Andrews of the Massachusetts State Police Springfield barracks told 22News that the drive shaft of a tractor trailer truck punctured its own fuel tank around 3:00 A.M.; causing diesel fuel to spill out.

There was no crash and no one was injured.

A Hazardous material and items crew (HAZMAT) and the Department of Environmental Protection were called in to help clean up the site of the spill.

State police re-opened the ramp to traffic around 9:00 A.M.

The exit is one of the busiest along I-91, as it is located near Baystate Medical Center, the region’s largest employer.
