AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – The cost of a pre-St. Patrick’s Day celebration that lead to dozens of arrests at UMass Amherst will likely total more than 200-thousand dollars for public safety, consultant fees and property damage.
Police arrested 65 people and 141 were charged in connection with the Blarney Blowout that took place earlier this month.
Overtime and pepper spray cost taxpayers 23-thousand dollars.
A review by former Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis will cost up to 160-thousand dollars.
Other costs for hospital emergency care and public officials’ time, resources and supplies as well as private property damage could push the amount even higher.
