HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The well-known racing team of Rick and Dick Hoyt will join the likes of Pulitzer Prize winners David McCullough and Doris Kearns Goodwin.
So what do they have it common? Well, they all have won the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Award.
On Saturday night, the Hoyt’s were honored at the Log Cabin in Holyoke. The JFK Award is given every year to an Irish American who has distinguished themselves in their chosen field.
For years the Hoyt’s have been racing in the Boston Marathon together. They’ll do it one final time this year before retiring.
Rick and Dick Hoyt told 22News, “It’s just an unbelievable experience. Whoever thought that 52 years ago when he was born that we’d be here tonight accepting this great big award and affecting people throughout the world.”
This was 57th annual JFK Award reception.
Notable past recipients include former Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill, and space shuttle astronaut Catherine Coleman, just to name a few.
