Driver freed after being trapped in truck

Mass Pike

WARREN, Mass. (WWLP)- A man was trapped inside a truck after he crash over an embankment off the Mass Pike. It happened sometime after 6 o’clock Thursday morning.

Warren Fire Department Chief Adam Lavoie told 22News the truck was driving on the MassPike westbound when it hit and went over the guardrail then went down a 150 foot embankment into a stream.

The cabin of the truck was submerged in water and the driver was trapped.

It took crews from Warren, Ware, Palmer and Brimfield, along with assistance from state police and the MassDOT to free the man from the truck.

Chief Lavoie said the man gave them the thumbs up and was conscious and alert when he was freed.

The Department of Environement Protections was also called in because some of the diesel fuel spilled into the water where the truck landed.

The crews are still working to remove a large number of trees around the truck before they can pull it out of the water. Chief Lavoie expects that to take several more hours.

In the meantime traffic on Brook Road in Warren is down to one lane.
