PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The body of a baby seal was apparently deposited by someone in front of an unoccupied home in Providence.
The seal pup was reported about 10:30 a.m. Monday morning on Evergreen Street, off of North Main. Providence Police, city Animal Control officers and personnel from the Department of Environmental Management responded to examine it.
It was in the gutter, steps from recycling and garbage bins left out for collectors. A hand-lettered cardboard sign propped up next to the carcass read, “FREE SEAL.”
Police are investigating how the animal could have gotten there.
