Activist to paint downtown crosswalk rainbow colors in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A symbolic show of support for the gay community.

Activist Melinda Shaw has won approval from the Board of Public Works in Northampton to paint a heavily used downtown crosswalk with the colors of a rainbow, a symbol of the gay community.

Shaw says that if all goes as planned, the crosswalk will be painted in time for the Pride march scheduled for May 3rd.

The crosswalk is on the parade route.

Shaw is trying to raise $1,700 to buy the materials and other costs.
