HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Hundreds of Western Massachusetts teenagers stand to benefit from Governor Deval Patrick’s Summer Youth Employment Program.
It was first time some young people in Holyoke had heard about the jobs program to employ some 4,000 teenagers across Massachusetts in state run programs such as at summer camps and day care centers. The teens said they appreciate what they learned from 22News.
“I think that’s a good idea, I wouldn’t mind getting some money in the summer, learn a few things, that’s something everyone needs,” said Hector Rivera of Holyoke.
“It does interest me, it’s something to do, instead of being home all summer and not doing anything, it gets some money in your pocket and gets the house supported,” said Eric Santos of Holyoke.
The young people 22News spoke with said they hope to get further information from the governor where they can apply for these state supported summer jobs.
