TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) – Taunton Police say officers responded to three drug overdoses in the first hour of Thursday’s evening shift.
Taunton Police took to their Facebook page saying, “This needs to stop.”
Opioid overdoses, especially from heroin have been up dramatically across the region.
Since the start of the new year, Rhode Island has seen at least 56 accidental overdose deaths.
Massachusetts has had over 100.
That number doesn’t include the state’s largest cities of Boston, Worcester and Springfield, all of which investigate their own deaths.
Overdose deaths in Connecticut are up a reported 48% since 2012 according to the state medical examiner.
Numerous police departments across the region are lobbying for police officers to carry the opioid drug reversal medication known as “Narcan” to help prevent more overdoses and save lives.
