Proposal to increase state’s minimum wage

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)– House Speaker Robert DeLeo wants to make the minimum wage in Massachusetts $10.50 per hour.

Not long after President Obama called for a raise in the federal minimum wage, DeLeo (D-Winthrop) proposed a plan to make changes here in Massachusetts.

The speaker’s plan would raise the current $8 per hour minimum wage to $9 an hour on July 1.

The hourly rate would then go to $10 in 2015 and up to $10.50 by 2016.

Deleo’s plan is a different from a bill that passed Senate that planned to raise the minimum wage to $11 an hour over the same three year period.
