Pregnant woman pepper-sprayed during robbery attempt

FALL RIVER, R.I. (WPRI) — Fall River police Friday released the picture of a man wanted for peppery-spraying a pregnant woman during a robbery attempt earlier this week.

The incident took place around 3:50 p.m. Monday. The woman told police she had just made a withdrawal from an ATM at the Bank of America on North Main Street when a man approached her on Durfee St. and demanded money.

The woman told police she was able to push the man away and it was then he sprayed her with a chemical investigators believed to be pepper spray. Police said emergency crews took the woman to Charlton Memorial Hospital where she was treated.

Police said the man did not get any money from the victim.

Katherine Perez of Fall River told Eyewitness News this incident has her concerned, “Stuff that’s going on is getting me scared, I will be with my husband all the time.”

The woman told police she noticed the man earlier when she was taking money out of the ATM. Investigators released the following surveillance photos taken of the suspect at the bank.
