No special election to fill Rep. Coakley-Rivera’s seat

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – After 15 years, Cheryl Coakley-Rivera is leaving her seat at the State House.

Coakley-Rivera will become the Hampden County Superior Court’s Assistant Clerk.  The Springfield Democrat had a leadership position on the House Budget Committee, but started looking at other opportunities.

Coakley-Rivera told 22News, “It started when I was turning 50. I started looking at what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, where I wanted to contribute and continue my public service.”

There will not be a special election held to fill her seat.  Her staff will continue work on any issues her former district has.
