AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – The recent success of the UMass men’s basketball team could put them in the NCAA tournament. 22News is working for you with a look at their accomplishments this season.

The UMass Minutemen beat Rhode Island 65-61 in the Atlantic Ten tournament.

The Minutemen are 24 and 7 on the season. Friday night at 9 o’clock, they’ll have a big challenge. UMass will play George Washington in the tournament quarterfinals.

22News caught up with one UMass student who lives in New Jersey and said she was on her way home to go to Friday’s game in Brooklyn.

“I think they are all really passionate about the game and they have a really tight bond with each other. You can just see it as they work on the court together,” said Haley Harzynski.

UMass hasn’t reached the NCAA tournament since 1998, 16 years ago. UMass will find out if they make the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, the same day that UMass basketball fans are invited to watch the NCAA selection show at the Amherst Brewing Company.
