WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – After a few mild days winter weather made a return. Some people in parts of northern New England were digging out from more than a foot of snow on Thursday.
Here in Western Massachusetts we saw just a little snow but the big story was the bitterly cold weather.
Our normal high temperatures for this time of year are in the lower 40s not in the teens and 20s. And with strong gusty winds the wind chill made it feel like it was only in the single digits and even below zero at times.
Most people 22News talked to are ready for spring not more winter weather.
“I thought I was gonna get my rake out but now I’m running out of pellets, it’s freezing,” said Kenny Mutti of Westfield.
“I’m ready to play golf I’ve had enough of this I’ve been waiting for about a month now, usually you can go out in the winter and play a few holes now and then but this winter was so cold and not so much the wind the cold and the snow wouldn’t melt I couldn’t get out it,” said Emil Giusti of Westfield.
“It’s disheartening just when you think spring is around the corner we put the clocks ahead we thought things were going to be getting better, it’s lighter out and then we get hit with this kind of cold,” said Gaery Costa of Agawam.
The sun did come out Thursday afternoon but it did very little to warm things up.
Spring officially begins Thursday, March 20th at 12:57 p.m.
