WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – If you’ve traveled any where in western Massachusetts recently you know just how many potholes there are out there. 22News is working to show you how bad the potholes are in Westfield.
There are some large potholes out there and on some roads in Westfield it’s just about impossible to avoid them.
On Springdale Road, there are numerous potholes and some of them are several inches deep. Cars are forced to slow down to a crawl and in many cases people are crossing over into the oncoming lanes to try and avoid them.
On Shaker Road, a sign warns driver of the potholes that lie ahead.
Emil Giusti of Westfield told 22News, “We had those spells of 50 degrees that’s what caused the potholes. It’s a mess out there right now there on the roads. Hopefully in the next few weeks though the weather should warm up and they can get out on the streets and take care of them.”
“Sometimes in trying to avoid them you got oncoming traffic so it can be a little bit of a dangerous situation if you’re trying to get out and avoid them,” said Gaery Costa of Agawam.
The good news is that soon area DPW’s will be able to fill the potholes with hot patch which works much better than the cold patch they’ve been using.
