HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Hartford police say five people have been arrested and heroin laced with the prescription painkiller fentanyl seized as part of an investigation of increased drug overdoses in the area.
Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley said Thursday that police, FBI and federal drug enforcement agents executed a warrant Wednesday at an Enfield Street home. He said they seized 2,000 bags of the laced heroin, along with marijuana, cash and two vehicles.
Forty-year-old Juan Antonio Baez, 27-year-old Carlos Cardona and 29-year-old Christopher Cardona, were charged with federal narcotics trafficking violations. Forty-year-old Romanita Gomez was charged with narcotics possession. Twenty-seven-year-old Angel Gonzalez was charged with marijuana possession. All are from Hartford. It’s not immediately known who is representing them.
Fatal heroin overdoses have increased across the country, and heroin laced with fentanyl is seen as particularly dangerous.
