Children injured in school van crash in Enfield

ENFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Four children have been hospitalized after their school van struck a tree in Enfield.

The students, who are from Enfield and surrounding towns, attend the CREC Museum Academy, a magnet school in Bloomfield.  Police say they were on their way home when the van hit a tree at about 3:30 p.m. off Moody Road.

CREC spokeswoman Aura Alvarado says three of the students suffered cuts and bruises; a fourth was unconscious at the scene.

All four were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The driver of the Dattco van was not seriously injured. Police say no other vehicles were involved, and the van may have swerved to avoid someone in the roadway.
