Complaint filed after campaign reimbursed chiropractor

Dan Allie (R) Candidate for 4th Hampden District House Seat

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP-The Westfield News) – A candidate for state representative has reimbursed his campaign, after a chiropractor’s office was paid with his campaign funds.

Our media partner, The Westfield News, reports that Dan Allie, a Republican city councilor who is running in the 4th Hampden District Special Election, had written six checks to a Westfield chiropractor totaling $210.

A man from Ludlow who wished to remain anonymous had filed a complaint about the issue with the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance, and released to the newspaper copies of e-mails between himself and the agency.

Allie told The Westfield News that he began visiting the chiropractor after he slipped and fell on the ice while campaigning in January; an injury that he says almost ended his run for the House seat.

As for the use of political funds, Allie told the paper that his campaign checkbook looks a lot like his personal checkbook, and he just made a mistake.

“I used the wrong checkbook,” he said. “It was my own fault.”

He has since reimbursed his campaign.
