HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Tuesday’s taste of spring-like weather was just what a lot of young people needed to get them thinking about a summer job, and several hundred of them met with prospective employers at the Youth Job Fair at CareerPoint in Holyoke.
They filled out applications and interviewed with company representatives. And not all of the applicants were teenagers, or even very young.
“They need to learn what workplace expectations are. There’s a lot of competition for entry level jobs,” said Bud Delphin, Programs Director at CareerPoint. “Now many older workers are competing for the same jobs that used to go to teenagers.”
Delphin told 22News one of the reasons it’s so competitive is that there are only half the jobs available now that there were ten years ago.
