Bangers & Mashed Potatoes with Homemade Guinness Gravy

CHICOPEE, Mass. (Mass Appeal) – Bangers and Mash is a traditional Irish dish made of mashed potatoes and Irish sausages. Chad Flasinski, Kitchen Manager at Taylor’s Tavern in Greenfield, showed us how to make it!

Bangers and Mashed Potatoes with Homemade Guinness Gravy

2 lbs Bangers (Irish sausage)
4-5 chef potatoes, peeled and diced
2 medium onions, julienned
12oz. Guinness
1 stick butter
4oz. milk
3oz. Flour


Put the potatoes on to boil. When they are fork tender, take out and mash with 1/2 the butter, milk and salt and pepper. as the potatoes are cooking, take 1/2 the butter, melt it down and add flour till it forms a wet sandy beach consistency. Add 1 cup water and the Guinness. bring to a simmer and turn down to low. should take about 20min. to completely thicken up. Once the mashed and the gravy is complete, start a large saut

é pan with some oil and your onions. when the onions have started to sweat add your bangers. sear the bangers around the outside along with caramelizing your onions in the same pan. When the bangers are seared add Guinness gravy to your pan and let simmer for 3-5minutes. Put 1 large scoop of mashed on a plate, flatten a little and place 3-4 bangers and a onions over the mash. Top by pouring the gravy from the pan over the bangers and mash pile! Eat while hot!!!!!
