Elizabeth Olsen, Jessica Lange, Oscar Isaac
CHICOPEE, Mass (WWLP) – Every now and then It’s Important to remember that Infidelity and murder can ruin a relationship.
“Therese Raquin”, Emile Zola’s classic tale of Illicit love and its consequences has been re-made again as a steamy melodrama called “In Secret”.
Look, before an unfulfilled woman will cheat, first, she’s got to be trapped in a loveless marriage to a Nerd.
Philandering friend of the family Oscar Isaac satisfies Elizabeth Olsen’s passionate spirit. When adultery alone just won’t do the trick, they’ll murder the poor slob and say it was an accident.
Which gives Jessica Lange a wonderful opportunity to cut loose with a tremendous performance as Olsen’s suspicious and vengeful mother-in-law.
If Lange’s hateful harangue doesn’t throw a crimp into Olsen’s corrupt love affair and create a serious crisis of conscience, I don’t know what will.
This timeless classic benefits from the Impassioned performances and the darkly brooding directing.
“In Secret” makes no secret, this powerful film deserves three stars.
And If the story seems familiar, that’s because you’ve probably seen the Hollywood versions called “Body Heat” and “The Postman Always Rings Twice”.
