SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Three people are being helped by the Red Cross after a fire in their Springfield home Friday morning.

Dennis Leger, aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, told 22News that firefighters were called to the multi-family home at 138 Dunmoreland St. in the Upper Hill neighborhood just before 7:00 A.M.

Fire was coming from the third floor attic space of the home. A family of three was living in the second floor at the time of the fire. Leger told 22News all three people made it out of the house safely.

Neighbors across the street took those residents in, gave them warm blankets and tea while firefighters worked to put the fire out.

Leger said that no one lived on the third or first floor of the home.

Due to the firefighting effort, Dunmoreland Street is closed to traffic between Wilbraham Road and Westford Circle.
