Some businesses are waiting for the snow to melt

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – There was plenty of sunshine Thursday but if you stepped outside you know just how cold it was.

There is also still quite a bit of snow on the ground and now it has gotten pretty hard and crunchy and you can even walk on top of it.

The snow on the side of the roads is also getting pretty old and dirty.

Some people who walk at Forest Park in Springfield would like to see a change in the temperature especially now that it’s March.

“Oh nice warm weather, I like to sweat when I walk, I like to sweat and when I sweat I feel like I’m doing something for myself,” said Walter Swiderski of Agawam.

If you’re looking forward to playing spring sports like baseball it’s looking like you’re you going to have to wait a little bit longer.

The baseball field is still covered with lots of snow and it looks like it may take awhile before it all melts away.

If you’re a golfer it looks like you may have to wait a little while before you can get out on the golf course.

“It’s been a normal winter, which I don’t like. Typically our average opening day is in the middle of March. We’re not quite there yet so we have another 10 days or so. We’ll see what it looks like with this cold weather the snow is not going to melt too fast,” said Ted Perez Jr., the co-owner of East Mountain Country Club in Westfield.

Perez says a couple of years ago when we had a very mild winter some people were out on the golf course at East Mountain Country Club in February.

Spring officially begins on Thursday, March 20th at 12:57 p.m.
