Posts advertising guns restricted on Facebook

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A social networking site, Facebook, is now keeping a close eye on gun sale activities on its website.

Facebook will block teens from seeing posts or pages that sell guns. Any sale posts that do not require background checks or cross state lines will be taken down.

Facebook users told 22News they don’t mind the new rules, but they are not sure how effective it will be.

“Maybe a little bit effective, but people will always find a way to get illegal things. But I think it’s a notable step for them,” said Collin Heisler.

The new policy would apply to a photo-sharing app called Instagram as well because Facebook owns Instagram.
