Make Your Own Irish Soda Bread!

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Whether or not you’re Irish, this classic quick bread recipe will bring a taste of Ireland right into your kitchen! Chef John Slattery, from Four Main Street Restaurant in Huntington, showed us how to make Irish Soda Bread.


 Irish Soda Bread:

Dry Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 Tbs baking powder
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • ½ cup cugar
  • ½ cup raisins
  • ½ Tbs seeds


Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2 oz melted butter
  • 1 egg



  1. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda and sugar in a bowl and sift it with a strainer to mix well.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix buttermilk, melted butter and egg.
  3. Add wet ingredients to the bowl of dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Mix in raisins and seeds.
  5. Place batter in a small baking dish and put in oven at 375º for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
