Big pothole problems in West Springfield

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s pretty difficult these days to drive anywhere in western Massachusetts without thumping your tires on a pothole, and while a lot of attention’s been focused on Riverdale Street in West Springfield, 22News found another road in West Side that may be much more dangerous to your car.

The ruts are especially deep and jagged on Piper Road.  22News cameras captured close to a mile of bad street surface between Morgan Road and Monastery Avenue.

On some parts of Piper, the entire top layer of road surface is entirely eaten away on one side of the middle of the road. In other parts, the rough and missing road surface goes from sidewalk to sidewalk. If you don’t drive really slowly, you risk damaging your car.

“I drive quite a bit,” said a man who only identified himself as ‘Joshua from Agawam, “And I’m sick of my car getting wrecked.”

22News will follow up on this story and find out if there’s a plan to fix Piper Road, and when it might get started.
