WESTFIELD, Mass. (AP) – State child welfare workers are investigating after a 4-year-old boy was found wandering alone on a Westfield street improperly dressed for the freezing temperatures.
Police got a call just after 9 a.m. Monday from a resident who had found the boy and took him inside to warm up. The resident said the boy didn’t have a jacket and was shivering. The temperature was 17 degrees.
Our media partner, The Westfield News reports that police knocked on the door of the boy’s Miller Street home, but there was no response.
When the boy’s mother returned home, she told police she left her son in the house because he had been acting up while she was preparing an older boy for school.
No charges were brought, but a report was filed with the Department of Children and Families.
