SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – One of Springfield’s largest shopping centers is under new ownership, and that will mean some major renovations.
According to a news release sent to 22News by Mayor Domenic Sarno’s office, the Springfield Plaza on Liberty Street will receive $4 million in improvements, including updated building facades, new signage, and improvements to the entrances, lighting, landscaping, and the parking lot.
The plaza, which has been open since the late 1950’s on land that was once the Springfield Airport, was recently acquired for $35 million by Albany Road Real Estate Partners and Davenport Companies.
The Springfield Plaza is currently 90% occupied, and includes such large stores as Rocky’s Ace Hardware, TJMaxx, K-Mart, and Stop & Shop, in addition to many smaller shops, restaurants, and offices.
